On Friday, November 20, Illinois moved into Tier 3 mitigation. Although the YMCA remains open, all organized youth and adult programs/classes (excluding Supplemental School Age Care) have been paused. Once programs/classes can resume, we will notify all participants on how we plan to move forward with our schedule. 


Please review our policies and guidelines below for all changes. 


General Facility

  • Reservations required to access facilities: Wellness Center/Track, Lap swim & Water Exercise, Family Swim and Racquetball.
  • Guests Passes only for 1st time visitors who are inquiring about joining only
  • Nationwide members from Illinois YMCAs only
  • Class registration required to access classes

  • Members required to wear masks in all common areas from entrance to exit.
  • Wellness check upon entering the facility or participating in a class.
  • Social distancing to be maintained whenever possible.
  • Touch-less check in.
  • Minimize human contact when possible.
  • Increased cleaning procedures including all facility areas with EPA registered disinfectant.
  • Strict cleaning schedules. Continuous disinfection of all free/machine weights, cardio, and equipment throughout the day.
  • Signage throughout the building regarding handwashing and social distancing. 
  • Additional hand sanitizing stations throughout the building.
  • Standardized cleaning for every room.
  • Limit total facility access by person per square foot.
  • Gatherings no more than 50.
  • Doors propped open to reduce touching.
  • Safe social distance workout areas (equipment has been spread out in various areas throughout the facility, in order to keep safe social distance).
  • Bring your own water bottle, fountains will be closed except for the fill station.
  • No towel service. Please bring your own towel
  • Locker rooms are closed for general use.  Locker rooms and showers are available to swimmers upon request only.
  • Babysitting & Kids Korner closed.
  • Whirlpool, steam room, sauna closed.
  • No open gym
  • Members who are unwilling to comply with the Y’s COVID transmission prevention measure will be asked to leave the facility immediately.

General Staff Guidelines

  • Staff who are sick or experiencing any flu-like or respiratory like illness should not come to work and will be asked to leave.
  • Staff will adhere to a six foot social distance spacing.
  • Staff will submit to a health check upon entering the building.
  • Staff are required to wear facial masks.
  • Staff are encouraged to use gloves for high-touch, non-personal workspaces.
  • All staff will receive training on proper use of gloves and facial masks.
  • Staff will clean the workspace at the beginning of their shift and at the end of their shift.
  • Staff will wash their hands upon entering the building.
  • Staff may be assigned as room monitors and will follow the established guidelines and cleaning schedules for those areas.
  • Telework schedules will be maintained as appropriate and necessary.
  • Work space should allow for 6 feet of personal space whenever possible.
  • Follow established policies and procedures if the employee tests positive (COVID-19 employee notification policy document).
  • Staff who are unwilling to comply with the Y’s COVID transmission prevention measure will be asked to leave the facility immediately.

Program Specific Guidelines

Lap Swim & Water Walking/Exercise

Safety Policies and Procedures:

  • Lap Swim or Water Walking/Exercise is only for members.
  • Members may only swim during their reserved time.
  • Number of members in the pool will be limited for social distancing.
  • Social distancing will be expected at all times.
  • Members must follow signage in order to help space out our members.
  • Locker rooms are available for use after you swim.  Please come ready to swim.
  • Only our bottle filler on the first floor will be available. Please bring your own water bottle.

Wellness Center

Safety Policies and Procedures: 

  • Wellness Center is only for members 16+ years old. 
  • Machine orientation must be completed for teens ages 13-15.
  • Once teens under the age of 16 complete a machine orientation, they will be able to ONLY use cardio and machine equipment in the Wellness Area. Parents will not need to be with them in order for them to use the equipment.
  • No one under the age of 13 is allowed in the wellness area unless they have a doctor notice approving them to use the wellness area. They will then need to complete a teen orientation and follow the same guidelines. 
  • Machine orientations must be done by appointment only through the Healthy Living Director.
  • Number of members in the Wellness Center will be limited to the 50 or less recommendation.
  • Masks are required to be worn at all times in the fitness/wellness areas  
  • At any time during your workout, when you are not able to practice the required 6 ft social distance, your masks must be worn. 
  • You are only allowed to be less than 6ft with people who live in your own household.
  • Social distancing will be expected at all times.
  • Members must wipe down equipment both BEFORE and AFTER use.
  • Members must follow signage indicating equipment that will not be in use in order to help space out our members.
  • Indoor track same social distance guidelines apply when using the track as in the wellness center.
  • Locker rooms will not be available for use.  Please come ready to work out.
  • Only our bottle filler on the first floor will be available. Please bring your own water bottles and towels


Remote Learning/School’s Out Days

Safety Policies and Procedures: 

  • Daily touch-less temperature checks will be completed for staff and students. Anyone with a temperature higher than 99.5 degrees will be sent home and must remain symptom free for 48 hours before returning with a required doctor’s note.
  • Masks must be worn when in common areas or when it is not possible for social distance.
  • Frequent hand washing throughout the day.
  • Students will have designated bathrooms.
  • All supplies, high-touch equipment and high traffic areas will be disinfected after use.
